The Difference between the Standing Fan and Desk Fan
Fans come in many shapes and sizes. From a model that you can use perfectly when you're on the go, to a wireless fan that effortlessly provides cooling in the living room. There's the handheld fan, which is a gadget-like air cooler that you often see at festivals, parties, and for example on public transport. When the temperature rises above thirty degrees in the coming months, you'll want to be assured of cold air everywhere. How convenient is it to have that at hand? You also have the desk fan, which is a size larger than the handheld fan. This design model fan often comes with a stand and a rotating function, so you also receive cool air behind your desk. Then there's the tall fan, in the form of a tower. This air freshener has a large range and is therefore often seen in a living room or bedroom. In those spaces, a ceiling fan is sometimes also installed, yet another form of cooler.
In the increasingly hot summers in the Netherlands, we need cooling in all aspects of daily life. For this reason, different types of fans have been developed, each with a different range. FlinQ likes to make your life a bit more pleasant this summer. With a wide range of air coolers, we keep your head cool this summer. From handheld fan to standing fan, the function remains the same: the devices provide cool air, exactly when you need it!
What's the Difference between a Standing Fan and a Regular Fan?
A cool breeze comes in many forms. A puff of wind, a hairdryer, a gust, a downpour: there are multiple names we use to indicate that the air around us is moving or to describe the phenomenon of wind. But on warm days, there's often a lack of air movement, so we'll have to create it ourselves. That can be done with a simple fan. These are, for example, the foldable sticks that can take the shape of a butterfly wing. By moving these up and down, you create a cold air stream. The harder you move the fan up and down, the more cold air you feel on your face. But the movement itself also makes you warm again. Then it's better to let a device do the work. With a standing fan, you're essentially doing the same thing at a very accelerated pace. The ventilation technology ensures that a constant fanning motion is made. This automatically creates a cold air stream.
The only thing that both a standing fan and a regular fan don't do is cool the air. An air conditioner does that. Fans only move the air, the wind blows away the warm air (temporarily). The moment you turn off the machine, it quickly becomes warm again. With an air conditioner, the air is actually cooled (the warm air has been removed) and this remains the case for a while. For this reason, we also call a (tower) fan a temporary air freshener.
What's the Advantage of a Standing Fan?
A standing fan fits into any interior. It's a slim format cooler, which automatically makes the device fade more into the background. An air freshener that you don't even realize is there, that's the best. You connect the machine to a place with a power outlet, for example next to the couch in your living room or in the corner of the bedroom. Those two spaces are, by the way, extremely suitable to be cooled by a fan. Then you can choose which of the wind speeds you want to use. A hard stream of air, which initially makes more noise, or a very gentle breeze, almost silent? You control these settings on top of the standing fan itself or via the FlinQ app, where a menu with different buttons is placed. Because you don't want to have cold air in your room all the time during the night, for example, you can also set a timer on it. The fan then blows exactly the hours you want an air stream to occur.
Where's the Best Place to Put a Fan?
The handheld fans, table fans and standing fans all have their advantages. They all serve the same purpose, but are all suitable for a different place or location. A table fan or desk fan, for example, is very suitable for a desk or dining table. The device has the power to provide cool air for a few meters. Keep in mind that you don't want the air directly in your face. At your desk, for example, it's most comfortable to receive the air from the side, so place the fan next to you. The advantage of the wireless fan is of course that you can put it anywhere you want. With the current flexible work culture, that's extra handy, because you have a desk fan wherever you work. And even when you work at home for a day, you can easily take it back with you.
A standing fan has more range due to its length. This cooler ensures that the cool air stream reaches further, it's a more powerful air cooler. The swing mode that comes with it increases the range even more. Place the standing air freshener, for example, on the long side of a room and give it space to rotate. Then the air really circulates in the room. The fan is therefore very useful in company canteens, in the bedroom or in a living room.
The History of the Fan
Heat is of all times, even our distant ancestors needed cooling. It's known that similar devices were used to prevent sweating about five centuries before Christ. The oldest variants come from South Asia and are known by the name Punkah. Initially, this was a square of woven bamboo. Just like with an old-fashioned fan, you could wave it to create cool air. In the eighteenth century, under the influence of British colonists in Asia, a new kind of punkah was developed: large screens hanging from the ceiling. As soon as these moved, a cooling air stream was created. To cool larger spaces, different punkahs were connected. Because they were clearly visible, they were made to fit well in the interior. People wanted an air cooler that would look good with the furniture - not much different from how we think now.
The punkah was overtaken by technology in the twentieth century. That was the moment the electric fan was designed. And as with many inventions, the device developed rapidly. From fans connected to electricity to the wireless fan of today. From an air freshener with 3 blades and a stand for your desk, to small handheld fans with five wind speeds that you can always put in your bag.
The Advantages of FlinQ's Air Freshener
Did you start sweating from choice stress while reading this blog? Then quickly take a look at FlinQ's range of air fresheners. There you'll find a clear overview of the different fans. You know best in which situations you need cooling this summer. A FlinQ air freshener fits each of these environments. The smaller variants have the great advantage that they can be used wirelessly. For example, charge these at night and you're sure to have cooling during the summer day. By paying more attention to the battery, we ensure that you're assured of cool air for longer.
Because the temperature and type of heat (dry or humid) can differ, the fans are also equipped with various settings as standard. You don't always need a full ocean wind in your face, so you can set yourself how fast the fan should rotate. You always conveniently control the fan on the device itself. The standing fan has the added advantage of a swing function. With this, you can reach a large part of your living room or bedroom in all settings. With the standing fan, life becomes even more pleasant, because you always get a remote control included. You don't even have to get up to ensure a fresh breeze through your house.
